A Visit from Uncle Bob

Uncle Bob got to our home before we did.  Rob and Quinn were still in Detroit moving him out of his apartment.  Colby and I were headed north, a drive that takes a LONG TIME.  When we finally pulled in at 9 pm Sunday, there was Uncle Bob, sitting in the driveway drinking a glass of wine.  He had driven 1600 miles to visit me, "on his way to Kentucky".  News Flash - we are NOT on the way to Kentucky.  We are not on the way to anywhere, which is why we have so few visitors.  But drive he did, and we will make the most of his short time here!

The next morning I made Uncle Bob an Aho staple  for breakfast- "Egg In A Basket" with my homemade sourdough.  Then we took a walk along the Nara Boardwalk on our way to the E A Seaman Mineral Museum.

Side note: My Irises and Peones are in bloom and they are lovely.

Later, right as I was cooking dinner, a huge wind picked up and the sky dumped a bucketload on us.  We lost power soon after, and Uncle Bob watched a tree in the back yard come down.  I didn't catch the worst of it on video, but since we had no power the rest of the evening, we sat on the porch and enjoyed nature's show.

Quintessential Yoop.  Thanks for the visit, Uncle Bob!

Detroit Skyline

Quinn is moving out of the Belcrest Apartment building in Downtown Detroit.  This was home to both boys for a year, and Quinn for two years.

The 11th floor apartment had 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a STUNNING view of the Detroit Skyline.  There are quirks to a 1920's era building, as well as lots of Art Deco character, and I don't think any of the boys will miss it.  But OOOHHH the view.  Just a stunning view.

Miller Family Open

Got up REALLY early this morning to hit the road by 4:30 am, heading to Ann Arbor for the Miller Family Open!  Amy and I got to witness this beautiful sunrise over Lake Superior.

No matter how many times we do it, still a thrill crossing the Mighty Mac

Our new adaptive track and field team the Michigan GRIT was competing!  This is so exciting, and the culmination of a lot of hard work and dreaming.  Proud of these kids, and thankful for volunteers like Coach Pojeta who stepped up to take the helm.  We've raised up track stars, and they needed a coach.

My two "adopted" kids - Maria and Amy.

Amy's chair was found to have NO BRAKES upon inspection.  This was a devastating turn of events that would have disqualified her for the whole weekend, but people in the adaptive community are SO KIND.  CJ ran to a bike shop, picked up some new brakes and fixed the chair just in time for Amy's first race.  Johnny pumped up her tires.  THANK GOODNESS for the kindness of others!

Our IAAAT kids just shined.  SO proud of them!

Our first relay team!

Me and the team we've built.
