Grandma Betty is here to spend spring break with us. The kids have kept her busy, that's for sure! They have made Easter candy, had tea parties, hot-tubbed, snowmobiled, gone on (4 mile long!) walks, and just generally had low-key fun. So great to have her around!
Elementary basketball is incredibly short and intense. The season lasts three weeks, and practices are 5 days a week. The Chassell Panthers had a total of four games in that time span, and went undefeated. Go Panthers! The boys have really learned how to work together as a team, and it's impressive. Quinn made a few key buckets in two of the games, which was pretty cool, too. My action shots leave much to be desired. Low-light and fast-moving boys do not photograph well at all.
Much to Daddy's chagrin, the weather has not been conducive to much flying of late. Sunday, though, was cold and clear. The lake, which had started to melt, froze solid again into a sheet of ice. Rob took full advantage, flying he and Quinn off to lunch, and then giving grandpa and my friend Liz rides to see the spectacular view.
Continuing on in reading month, today was "Muffins With Mom". Grandma and I visited Quinn and Reagan's school, and feasted on muffins and apple juice, while the kids read stories to us. Lots of "ands" in that sentence. Oh well. A great time was had by all.
Reading Month has begun at Chassell School, and the book this year is "Charlotte's Web". YES! A classic! Last year in Houghton the book was some uninspired "Lemonade War" book that not-so subtly tried to teach kids about math. I struggled to read it aloud to Reagan. But Charlotte's Web? Now we're talking!!
In keeping with the theme, a "Pig Slop" breakfast was served, and a big-ol' read-a-thon happened in the gym. It was fun! This is the first year I've gotten to go (Rob has done previous years), and it was cool having my son read to us on a Tuesday morning.
Real-time blogging our get-away ski week-end to fantastic Silver City, Michigan! The weather yesterday was absolutely perfect. Today is not as sunny as yesterday, but after the last few weeks of frigid cold, the 20s feel like a trip to Florida.
ADDENDUM: By the end of today, Little Miss Reagan skiied a Black Diamond run!!! She was slow and steady, doing her snowplow on those skinny legs (I don't know how they have the strength to ski, but they do!) but she made it down the whole thing without falling. I was so proud of her!! And she was proud of herself. "Whoever heard of a kindergartener skiing a black diamond????" she kept saying. I certainly haven't. "I think I need a Banana Split to celebrate how awesome I did!"
