Canyon Falls Hike

 John, Galina and I hiked in to Canyon Falls on this beautiful day.  At one point, we met a hiker going the other way, and he asked where the falls were.  "Down that way," says I.  "Keep walking!  You can't miss them!"  Apparently, he had just BEEN down that way, and he DID miss the falls.  Unless... there were no falls now because they had frozen clean over.  Sure enough, that's exactly what had happened.  Astounding.  This cold snap has frozen gravity and moving water, leaving a fantastic ice formation behind.  It was beautiful, but eerily quiet.  

Snow & Ice

 Galina and  I went for a walk in the woods, and it was lovely, if chilly.  Meanwhile, Reagan took the day off from school to finish her U of M Taubman School of Architecture Design Portfolio, which entailed creating an ice sculpture of... herself.  She has never tried such a thing before, but nothing stops this girl.

At one point, her head broke off.  No worries.  It's ice.  A little water and it all froze back together!

Houghton Skiing

Reagan is Captain of the Houghton Ski Team this year, and is having fun on the slopes, where she loves to be.

 

A Day At the Beach, Michigan Edition

 Rob and Quinn aren't the only ones who can go to the beach in January, dang it.  Reagan and I decided we needed to as well...only it was a balmy 17 below zero.  Lake Superior is like travelling to a different planet this time of year.  It was stunningly beautiful, and the sun was out, so the cold was totally worth it.
