Mini-vacation to Minneapolis

Our weekend was spent with Rob's sister and husband in Minnesota. We left Friday evening after work, and headed to a hotel/water park in Wisconsin, to break the drive up a little. We didn't get in til 8 pm, so the boys ended up swimming until 11 pm EST (10 CST). And STILL they had trouble falling asleep. Despite our hopes that they might sleep in the next day, they were up at the crack of dawn, ready to hit the water again. After force-feeding them some breakfast, we swam a bit more, and then hit the road for Tom and Diane's house.

On Sunday morning we all piled into Tom and Diane's van and headed to Minneapolis/St. Paul for a visit to Como Zoo and Conservatory. BEAUTIFUL gardens, and lots of animals to see. Well worth the $0 price tag... Rob and I were amazed that the entire thing was supported by local taxes. Works for us out-of-staters just nicely :). Socialism has it's perks, I guess.... After a wonderful picnic lunch by the lake, we headed to the Minneapolis Children's Museum. A tad bigger than our semi-local museum, to say the least. The boys had a ball. The adults got tired. I find it's much easier to take two children to a museum when there are five supervising adults rather than one supervising adult. We were able to position ourselves in a type of "zone defense" that worked quite nicely. Exhausted, we headed back north to Sartell, just in time to hit a doozy of a storm. The tornado touched down just behind us, apparently, as several houses were destroyed and a little 2 year old girl was killed. Tragic. Luckily we outpaced the storm for the most part, and arrived back at Tom and Diane's safely.

I think the boys slept a total of maybe 10 hours the entire trip. Too excited to waste time with eyes shut, apparently. They certainly made up for it today -- Quinn just woke up from a 5 hour nap!!!! All that vacationing really wears a kid out.

Following the Rules

I am NOT able to keep clothes on the boys, and had to threaten bodily harm earlier today just to get them in some sembelance of footwear outside. They snuck outside this evening -- again without clothes -- but they WERE wearing shoes! They made me call them "Cinderella" and "Prince" in order to come inside. Their father will be so proud....

A Day in May

It's not as easy as it looks to get on a swing with muckin' boots. Sometimes, you just have to give up and play with something else.

Armed Forces Day

I took the boys to the Armed Forces Day parade today. It was pretty fun seeing the soldiers, the big trucks, getting loads of CANDY. I tear up every time the flag or a vet walks by. Like I wasn't sentimental enough BEFORE pregnancy. Now it's a full moon, I'm pregnant, the boys were cute and good, AND there are vets and the flag. SHEESH. Everything was working against me! I didn't have a chance.

Mother's Day

It's been a nice day in the Aho household. We went to two different church services in the morning, came home, ate lunch, then all four of us took naps. We spent the afternoon playing a little wiffle-ball out in the yard. It's been a good day.

Just got back from getting new haircuts... the boys did very well! No missing ears, no tears, no blood! Look at those handsome things...

Craft Time

Spent the morning doing a little "craft project", working on fine motor skills. Now... to clean up the mess :)

Happy May Day!

In honor of May Day, the boys delivered a bunch of Daffodils to our neighbor Beth. They were thrilled to be able to use scissors to CUT FLOWERS, an activity normally off-limits. Then we all hopped into our respective vehicles and trotted on over to make the big delivery. There was a little disappointment, as Beth wasn't home, but we're hoping it'll be a nice surprise for later.
