Soccer

Summer is fast coming to a close, which means.... soccer.  It's cool watching the boys mature.  The games are not hilariously cute to watch anymore. They're actually engaging in a "I can't believe my kid can do that now" kind of way.  There are actual plays, and skill, and "wow!" moments.  These are REAL games now!  THIS particular game, Quinn made TWO goals.  He hasn't made a goal since his first year in soccer three years ago, so this was especially cool.  His mama was beyond proud.  Colby, on the other hand, got red-carded and thrown out of the game.  HHHMPH.  Before you go thinking Colby was instigating a fist-fight or swearing up a storm or something, let me tell you his infraction.  He was on defense, and the goalie kicked the ball into his hand.  He was protecting himself.  Out of instinct (wouldn't YOU??).   But apprently there is some rule about hand balls in the goal box necessitating a red card, if deliberate and flagrant.  I was stunned when they threw him out of the game.  So was every.single.parent. in the crowd, and BOTH coaches.  The kid is EIGHT, and it was totally by accident.  The red card may have been a tad harsh, methinks.  Fine, give the other team a penalty shot or something, but tossing the kid out with a red card???  Good grief.  Poor Colby was distraught and tearful, and the team played short the rest of the game, because they weren't allowed to replace him.  Ridiculous.  Just... insane.

Thankfully, Colby's coach followed up with the soccer board, and the refs held a special meeting.  It was UNANIMOUSLY agreed that the call was inappropriate, as it was not deliberate or flagrant, and it's in a division of EIGHT YEAR OLDS for goodness sake.  So, yeah.  It won't be happening again to any other poor kid just trying his best out on the field.  And Colby, true to form, stayed sad for approximately 5 nanoseconds or so, as it became apparent that, even though outnumbered on the field, their team STILL won the game.  So it all worked out  in the end.  PHEW.

Soccer drama.  Just what we need to start the school year.

Visitors from the West

Visitors to our "neck of the woods" are a rare and wonderful thing.  We were thrilled to have my sister Elle and her husband Rick stop by for a few days and enjoy the last few days of summer with us!!
The weather was perfection, and the Keweenaw showed off it's glory.  Thanks so much for visiting, sis!!!

Reagan's First Dentist Appointment

The little girl who clenched her teeth and pushed my tooth-brush-weilding hand away during tooth-cleaning for the first few years of her life.... has met the dentist.  And opened her mouth like a big girl.   YEAH REAGAN!!  We're visiting health care professionals in preparation for the big event that will transpire two short weeks from today.  Reagan's first day of preschool.  SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF.    SHE is ready and excited for school.  I am not emotionally ready for it at all.  My baby.  Not a baby.   It seems like yesterday that the boys started pre-school, and now look at them - big 3rd graders who are embarassed to hold my hand, whose feet are nearly as big as mine.  I'm not ready for Reagan to grow up, too!!!

Dang you, Time, and your relentless marching forward!!

She looks a little nervous, but BOY was she a trooper!  She REALLY wants to go to school!

Notice protective brother's feet in the doorway..... (or maybe they just wanted to play my iPhone)

Look Ma!  No Cavities!

Daddy In Colorado

Daddy has been training in Colorado for the past few weeks.  Sounds like it's intense out there.  As he's studying how to create a river, he needed to do some "research" of his own on his day off... and so went hiking with a fellow student!

Great Falls, Montana

Look at that.  Colby's shoes are the same brand as the giant tires on the military Humvee!

Mobius Science Center

Mind Ball - moving a ball against an opponent using nothing but brainwaves.  Reagan lost this round.

"Listening" to music via biting a vibrating rod.

Mind Ball between Quinn and Colby was... pointless.  Their brainwaves matched perfectly, and we finally had to call it a draw after they stared at each other for 20 minutes.  Twins.  HMMMPH.

Coolest touch-screen musical instrument EVAH.
